Mephenytoin falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Pinellia Ternata interacts with.

Evidence from animal research shows that a Pinellia ternata preparation decreases activity and increases sleeping time. Theoretically, Pinellia ternata can potentiate the therapeutic effect of CNS depressants. Some of these medications include antihistamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressants, and others.

Mephenytoin (Mesantoin) is an older anti-seizure medicine that can already make you feel drowsy, sluggish, or unsteady on its own. The concern here is simple: Pinellia ternata may add to that calming, sedating effect. In animal studies it lowered activity and lengthened sleep time, so combining the two could leave you feeling more tired, foggy, or off-balance than usual.

I want to be honest about how strong this evidence is. It comes from lab and animal research, not from people, so it's a theoretical caution rather than a proven problem. Even so, since both can affect the brain, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, especially if you'd be driving or already notice daytime drowsiness. Please don't change your seizure medicine on your own.
