Omeprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, induces cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. Theoretically, schizonepeta might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the gist for omeprazole. A compound in Schizonepeta called schizonepetin may speed up an enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear omeprazole. If that enzyme works faster, your omeprazole could break down a bit quicker, so theoretically you might get less acid-blocking benefit. In real life, that could mean your heartburn or reflux symptoms creep back.

That said, I'd keep this in perspective. This warning comes only from lab and animal research, not from people, so it's a theoretical concern. Omeprazole is mainly handled by a different enzyme (CYP2C19), which softens the worry even more. If you want to use Schizonepeta, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first and watch for returning symptoms.

About Omeprazole

What Is Omeprazole Used For?

Brand names: Prilosec, Zegerid, Losec

Omeprazole is used to treat a range of conditions where stomach acid causes problems. These include heartburn and acid reflux (GERD), erosive esophagitis (damage to the esophagus from acid), and stomach or duodenal ulcers. It can also be used alongside antibiotics to help get rid of an H. pylori infection — a bacteria that causes ulcers.

In more serious cases, omeprazole is used to manage conditions where the stomach produces far too much acid, such as pathologic hypersecretory conditions (rare medical disorders that cause extreme acid overproduction). It is approved for adults and children one year of age and older for GERD and erosive esophagitis.
