Sida cordifolia contains ephedrine. Clinical research shows that ephedrine from another herb, ephedra, can prolong the QT interval.

Here's the concern with pairing Sida cordifolia with your imatinib (Gleevec). Imatinib is one of the cancer medicines that can stretch out the heart's electrical recovery time, something doctors call QT prolongation. Sida cordifolia contains ephedrine, a stimulant that can do the same thing. When you stack two things that both affect heart rhythm, the effect can add up and, in rare cases, lead to a dangerous irregular heartbeat.

This isn't about the supplement changing how your body breaks down imatinib. It's two separate heart effects combining. The evidence here is fairly limited and partly theoretical, so I don't want to alarm you, but with a stimulant like this I'd play it safe. Please check with your oncology team or pharmacist before using any Sida cordifolia product.

What Is Imatinib Used For?

Brand name: Gleevec

Imatinib treats a range of blood cancers and solid tumors. It is used for Philadelphia chromosome positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+ CML) in adults and children — whether newly diagnosed or in more advanced phases — and for Philadelphia chromosome positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL) in both adults and pediatric patients.

It is also used for Kit-positive gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), including after surgical removal, and for several rarer conditions: myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases (MDS/MPD) linked to specific gene changes, aggressive systemic mastocytosis (ASM), hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and/or chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL), and unresectable, recurrent, or metastatic dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP).
