Here's the concern with pairing Sida cordifolia with imipramine. Imipramine, like other tricyclic antidepressants, can stretch out a part of your heart's electrical cycle called the QT interval. Sida cordifolia contains ephedrine, a stimulant that has also been shown to lengthen that same interval. Put them together and the effects can stack up.

When the QT interval gets too long, it can rarely trigger a dangerous heart rhythm, with symptoms like a pounding or skipping heartbeat, dizziness, or fainting. Ephedrine can also raise your blood pressure and heart rate on its own. This isn't proven for this exact combo, but the worry is real enough that I'd avoid the supplement. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing them.

What Is Imipramine Used For?

Brand names: Tofranil, Tofranil PM

Imipramine is used to relieve symptoms of depression. Both Imipramine Hydrochloride tablets and Imipramine Pamoate capsules are approved for this use. Endogenous depression — the kind that seems to arise from within rather than a clear outside cause — tends to respond especially well. It may take one to three weeks before you notice the full benefit.

Imipramine Hydrochloride tablets are also approved as a short-term, add-on treatment to help reduce nighttime bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis) in children aged 6 and older, after a doctor has ruled out physical causes.
