Here's the concern with pairing Sida cordifolia with trimethoprim. Both can affect your heart's electrical timing, what doctors call the QT interval. Trimethoprim is known to nudge that interval longer in some people, and Sida cordifolia contains ephedrine, a stimulant that can do the same thing. Stacked together, they may add up and raise the risk of an irregular heartbeat, which in rare cases can feel like palpitations, dizziness, or fainting.

I'll be honest, this is largely a theoretical worry based on what we know about ephedrine, not strong studies on this exact combo. Still, since the result could be serious, I'd avoid Sida cordifolia and check with your pharmacist or doctor first, especially if you have any heart rhythm history.

What Is Trimethoprim Used For?

Brand names: Proloprim, Trimpex

Trimethoprim tablets are used to treat initial episodes of uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs). It works against specific bacteria — including E. coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter species, and coagulase-negative Staphylococcus species (including S. saprophyticus).

It should only be used when there is a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection. Your doctor may order a urine culture to confirm which bacteria are present and whether trimethoprim will work against them.
