Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Lansoprazole, Amoxicillin, Clarithromycin
Lansoprazole, Amoxicillin, Clarithromycin falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Spearmint interacts with.
Animal research suggests that drinking spearmint tea for 30 days can increase markers of liver damage, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and cause liver degeneration and necrosis, in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Prevpac is the H. pylori treatment pack that combines lansoprazole, amoxicillin, and clarithromycin. The concern here isn't about spearmint changing how this combo works in your body. Instead, both spearmint (in very high, concentrated doses) and certain medicines can put a little extra workload on the liver. Clarithromycin in particular can occasionally raise liver enzymes, so the worry is that piling on a lot of spearmint might add to that strain.
Honestly, this is mostly theoretical. The liver findings came from animal studies using heavy spearmint amounts over weeks, and nothing like this has shown up in people. A cup of spearmint tea or mint in food is very unlikely to be a problem. If you take concentrated spearmint supplements, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things during your short course.
