Tansy Ragwort + Phenobarbital, Phenytoin
Phenobarbital, Phenytoin brand name: Dilantin with PB.
Tansy Ragwort has a moderate interaction with Phenobarbital, Phenytoin. Theoretically, CYP3A4 inducers might increase the risk of adverse effects from the pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) constituents in tansy ragwort.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS
Why this applies to Phenobarbital, Phenytoin
Phenobarbital, Phenytoin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Tansy Ragwort interacts with.
Tansy ragwort contains PAs. PAs are substrates of CYP3A4. Theoretically, drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
First things first: tansy ragwort really should not be taken internally at all. It contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which your liver can turn into toxic byproducts that damage liver cells. There's no safe, proven use for it as a remedy.
Here's the wrinkle with phenobarbital and phenytoin. Both of these are strong CYP3A4 inducers, meaning they rev up that liver enzyme. Since the enzyme is what converts tansy ragwort's alkaloids into the harmful form, taking them together could speed up the production of those toxic compounds and raise the risk of liver injury. I'll be honest, this concern is theoretical and based mostly on lab and animal data, not human cases. Still, the safest move is simple: don't use tansy ragwort, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before any herbal product.
