Sodium valproate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Tianeptine interacts with.

Tianeptine has sedative effects; high doses may have additive effects with other CNS depressants.
Higher doses of tianeptine have opioid like effects and may have additive effects with other sedative drugs. In one case report, a 42-year-old male presented with respiratory depression and aspiration pneumonia due to concomitant use of high-dose tianeptine and alprazolam.

Here's the concern when sodium valproate (Epilim) and tianeptine are taken together. Valproate can already cause drowsiness, dizziness, and mental fog on its own. Tianeptine has its own sedating effect, and at higher doses it behaves much like an opioid. Stack the two and those calming effects can pile up, leaving you overly sleepy, unsteady, or slowed down in your breathing.

This warning is based on how these drugs work rather than solid studies, so think of it as a reasonable caution, not a proven danger. Still, one case did involve serious breathing trouble with high-dose tianeptine. I'd strongly steer clear of gas-station tianeptine, and please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before mixing anything with your valproate.
