Valbenazine Tosylate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Tianeptine interacts with.

Tianeptine has sedative effects; high doses may have additive effects with other CNS depressants.
Higher doses of tianeptine have opioid like effects and may have additive effects with other sedative drugs. In one case report, a 42-year-old male presented with respiratory depression and aspiration pneumonia due to concomitant use of high-dose tianeptine and alprazolam.

Here's the simple version: this isn't about one drug changing how the other is broken down. Instead, it's about two things that can both make you drowsy stacking on top of each other. Valbenazine (Ingrezza) can already cause sleepiness, and tianeptine, especially at the high doses found in many over-the-counter and 'gas station' products, behaves like an opioid and adds its own sedation.

Put them together and you could feel unusually groggy, tired, or off-balance. At higher tianeptine doses there's a real worry about slowed breathing, which a case report linked to combining high-dose tianeptine with a sedative. This is based on how these drugs act rather than hard studies, but it's worth taking seriously. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing them.

What Is Valbenazine Used For?

Brand name: Ingrezza

Valbenazine — sold as Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle — is approved for two conditions in adults. The first is tardive dyskinesia, a movement disorder that causes uncontrolled, repetitive facial or body movements, often brought on by long-term use of certain psychiatric medications. The second is chorea associated with Huntington's disease, which refers to the involuntary, dance-like jerking movements that are a hallmark of that condition.

Both Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle are approved for both of these uses.
