Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's something worth knowing if you take Zuclopenthixol (Clopixol) for a psychiatric condition. The concern on file is that Umckaloabo (Pelargonium sidoides) may gently stimulate the immune system. That theory comes from this supplement being grouped with immunosuppressant medicines, where revving up immune activity could work against the drug. But Zuclopenthixol is an antipsychotic, not an immunosuppressant, so this particular worry doesn't really fit how it works in your body.

Honestly, this is a theoretical, lab-based flag, and I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since I can't confirm a clear interaction here, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before starting Umckaloabo, especially while on a long-term medicine like this one.

  • Sore throat
  • Upper respiratory infections

Umckaloabo is a root extract from a South African geranium that is most studied for short-term relief of acute bronchitis and other respiratory infections. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a chronic illness.
