Ibuprofen lysine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Vinpocetine interacts with.

Theoretically, vinpocetine might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro research shows that vinpocetine weakly inhibits CYP2C9. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: ibuprofen lysine is just ibuprofen paired with an amino acid to help it dissolve, so it acts like regular ibuprofen in your body. One of the liver enzymes that clears it is called CYP2C9. In lab dishes, vinpocetine appears to weakly block that enzyme, which could in theory slow how fast ibuprofen leaves your system and let levels creep up a little.

If that happened, you might see more of ibuprofen's usual side effects, like stomach upset, heartburn, or in some cases stomach irritation or bleeding, and a bit more strain on the kidneys. That said, this is only a theoretical, test-tube finding and hasn't actually been seen in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, it's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Vinpocetine might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Clinical research shows that vinpocetine decreases red blood cell aggregation, as well as plasma and whole blood viscosity. This effect has been seen with intravenous vinpocetine 1 mg/kg and oral vinpocetine 30 mg daily. Vinpocetine also seems to have antiplatelet effects.

Here's the thing to know if you're pairing vinpocetine with ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is an NSAID, and on its own it can make your blood a little slower to clot and can be tough on the stomach lining. Vinpocetine appears to have its own mild blood-thinning, anti-platelet action, meaning it makes platelets a bit less sticky. Stack the two together and you may bump up the chance of bleeding or bruising.

In real life that could look like easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or stomach upset that lingers. The research behind this is fairly limited, so I wouldn't panic, but I would loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you take ibuprofen often or already take any other blood thinner.

About Ibuprofen

What Is Ibuprofen Used For?

Brand name: NeoProfen

Oral ibuprofen products (tablets, coated tablets, and liquid-filled capsules) are used to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains from headache, backache, toothache, muscular aches, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and the common cold, and to temporarily reduce fever. The oral prescription tablet (Ibu) is also indicated for the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, mild to moderate pain, and primary dysmenorrhea (painful periods).

Caldolor, an intravenous (IV) form, is approved for adults and children 3 months and older to manage mild to moderate pain, to manage moderate to severe pain alongside opioid pain medicines, and to reduce fever. A separate intravenous solution, Ibuprofen Lysine, is used specifically in premature infants to close a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) — an abnormal blood vessel connection near the heart — when standard medical management has not worked.
