Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product is a single-ingredient supplement: purified Himalayan Shilajit. Shilajit is a mineral-rich substance that comes from mountain rocks in the Himalayas.

The product contains no inactive ingredients (no fillers or binders) — just the shilajit itself.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
General wellness

This Shilajit product is marketed for general wellness, not a specific health condition, so there's no single claim to grade — see Shilajit's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets general wellness (“general vitality and energy support”), not a specific health condition, so there is no single claim to grade against clinical-evidence data.

The evidence for shilajit is limited. Our data shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), and osteopenia (low bone density).

In other words, we don't have enough solid research yet to say whether it works for these purposes.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Shilajit is generally well tolerated, though a rare case of severe allergic reaction — including hives and anaphylaxis — has been reported. Headache is also rare.

The product carries an important caution: only use purified, tested brands, because unpurified shilajit can contain heavy metals or other contaminants. Shilajit should be avoided during pregnancy and while breastfeeding — there isn't enough safety data, and the contamination risk is real.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Shilajit.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 86 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take antidiabetes drugs — including metformin, glibenclamide, insulin, or other blood-sugar-lowering medications — check your exact drugs with the tool on this page before taking shilajit. The combination can increase your risk of low blood sugar.

If you take diabetes medication, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting this product — it can lower your blood sugar further. Make sure you're using a purified, tested brand.

Don't use it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. For other uses, the evidence is still being built.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Taking shilajit with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Most human and animal research shows that shilajit can decrease fasting plasma glucose levels. In an animal model, shilajit 100 mg per kg daily enhanced the glucose-lowering ability of both glibenclamide and metformin when given in combination over a 4 week period. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.

Authentic Shilajit by Lotus Blooming Herbs: Common Questions

Does Authentic Shilajit by Lotus Blooming Herbs interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Authentic Shilajit has a known interaction with 86 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Authentic Shilajit contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. The safety data is insufficient for pregnancy, and contamination risk is a real concern — it's best avoided. The same goes for breastfeeding — safety is unknown, so you should avoid it. Talk to your doctor before considering any supplement in these situations.
What's the difference between purified and unpurified shilajit?
Unpurified shilajit can contain heavy metals and other contaminants that pose a health risk. This product is purified, but the safety note emphasizes using only purified, tested brands — that's the main thing to look for.
Are there any common side effects?
Shilajit is generally well tolerated. Headache is reported rarely. A rare but serious allergic reaction — including hives and anaphylaxis — has been reported in one case, especially with higher doses or with exercise after taking it.
Does shilajit really lower blood sugar?
Research shows that shilajit can decrease fasting blood sugar levels. That's why it interacts with diabetes drugs — the combined effect raises your risk of low blood sugar. If you take diabetes medication, your doctor needs to know.
