Cissus Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Cissus against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains a single active ingredient: Cissus quadrangularis extract, a plant-derived compound that has been studied for its effects on weight and metabolism. The remaining ingredients are inert materials — rice flour, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and gelatin — that form the capsule and help hold it together.
Does it work?
Not established
Cissus quadrangularis is possibly effective for obesity according to the evidence we've reviewed. For other uses — high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), weak bones (osteopenia), cancer, and epilepsy — we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or not.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Cissus quadrangularis is generally well tolerated in the short term. The most commonly reported side effects are headache and insomnia, but clinical trials found these occurred at rates similar to or lower than placebo.
Some people also report flatulence, diarrhea, gastritis, or dry mouth, again at rates comparable to placebo. Long-term safety hasn't been well studied, so we don't know what happens with extended use.
There isn't enough safety data to know whether it's safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, so the safety data advises against use in both situations. If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Cissus, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any antidiabetes drugs — medication to lower blood sugar, including insulin and oral diabetes medications. This product may increase the risk of low blood sugar with these drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Cissus quadrangularis may be worth considering if you're interested in weight management support and don't take antidiabetes medications. If you do take diabetes drugs, check with your doctor or pharmacist first — there's a real risk of low blood sugar.
Long-term safety is still unknown, and pregnancy and breastfeeding are off-limits. Have a conversation with your own healthcare provider before starting.

Cissus by Core Nutritionals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Cissus by Core Nutritionals contains one active ingredient — Cissus quadrangularis extract — that does interact with a common class of medications.
The main concern is antidiabetes drugs (medications that lower blood sugar). Cissus quadrangularis might increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when taken alongside these drugs, a Moderate-severity interaction.
Small clinical studies suggest the extract itself can lower fasting blood sugar in people who are overweight or obese, so combining it with diabetes medication could push your levels too low.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Altogether, these interactions span 86 individual medications.
If you take any antidiabetes drug — whether insulin, metformin, sulfonylureas, or any other type — you'll want to check your specific medications with the tool on this page before starting Cissus. Your doctor or pharmacist can help you figure out whether it's safe to combine, and whether your blood sugar needs closer monitoring.
