Phosphatidylserine DMAE Complex Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by NaturesPlus
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Phosphatidylserine DMAE Complex against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains 6 active ingredients designed to support brain health and cell function. Phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine are phospholipids — fatty compounds found in cell membranes that play a role in nerve communication.
Dimethylaminoethanol bitartrate (DMAE) is thought to increase levels of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. The formula also includes cephalin and phosphoinositides, which are related phospholipid compounds, plus activated soy phosphatides as a plant-derived phospholipid blend.
The inactive ingredients are cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, silica, and purified water — standard capsule materials and binders.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Phosphatidylserine is rated possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease. Phosphatidylcholine is rated possibly effective for ulcerative colitis, though the evidence for Alzheimer disease, NAFLD, alcohol-related liver disease, and anxiety is insufficient.
For DMAE, the evidence is less encouraging — it's rated likely ineffective for Alzheimer disease and tardive dyskinesia (a movement disorder), and evidence is insufficient for ADHD, athletic performance, and aging skin. For the other ingredients in this blend — cephalin, phosphoinositides, and glycosphingolipids — no effectiveness ratings are on file in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine are generally well tolerated when taken by mouth, though high doses can cause digestive upset. Common side effects reported with phosphatidylserine include flatulence, nausea, headache, and insomnia — especially at higher doses.
Phosphatidylcholine may cause altered taste, bloating, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. DMAE is generally tolerated but may cause abdominal cramps, diarrhea, drowsiness, nausea, or vomiting; higher doses (over 1,000 mg daily) have been linked to mood changes in people with psychiatric conditions.
For pregnancy: there isn't enough data to know whether phosphatidylserine or DMAE are safe; discuss this with your doctor. For breastfeeding: safety data on all three is insufficient — talk with your healthcare provider first.
Choline (from phosphatidylcholine) is needed during pregnancy, but supplement safety beyond food sources isn't well studied.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take anticholinergic drugs (used for bladder control, motion sickness, or certain digestive issues) — phosphatidylserine poses a Moderate risk of reducing their effectiveness. Also mention any cholinergic drugs (which boost acetylcholine); phosphatidylserine carries a Moderate risk of adding to their effects, and DMAE a Minor one.
No other interaction categories are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may be worth considering if you're interested in supporting cognitive function and you don't take anticholinergic or cholinergic medications. Because of the Moderate interaction risk with those drug classes, check your medications carefully before starting — your doctor or pharmacist can confirm whether this supplement is appropriate for you.
If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, discuss it with your healthcare provider first, since safety data is limited.

Phosphatidylserine DMAE Complex by NaturesPlus Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
NaturesPlus Phosphatidylserine DMAE Complex interacts with medications through its phosphatidylserine and dimethylaminoethanol bitartrate (DMAE) content.
The most serious concern is a Moderate interaction with anticholinergic drugs — medications that block acetylcholine — where phosphatidylserine may reduce how well these drugs work by increasing acetylcholine levels in the body.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Both phosphatidylserine and DMAE can theoretically increase acetylcholine effects. With cholinergic drugs (which boost acetylcholine), phosphatidylserine poses a Moderate risk of additive effects and side effects, while DMAE poses a Minor risk.
With anticholinergic drugs, phosphatidylserine also carries a Moderate concern about reduced effectiveness, and DMAE a Minor one.
We could not check three other ingredients — cephalin, phosphoinositides, and glycosphingolipids — because we hold no interaction data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 219 individual medications.
