Belinostat falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS — the group Breadfruit interacts with.

Breadfruit might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by uridine diphosphoglucuronosyl transferase (UGT). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, in vitro evidence shows that the breadfruit constituent artocarpin inhibits UGT. Theoretically, this could decrease the clearance and increase levels of glucuronidated drugs. Some drugs that are metabolized through glucuronide conjugation include acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) and oxazepam (Serax), haloperidol (Haldol), lamotrigine (Lamictal), morphine (MS Contin, Roxanol), zidovudine (AZT, Retrovir), and others.

Here's the gist: your body clears belinostat partly by tacking a sugar molecule onto it (a process called glucuronidation, handled by UGT enzymes). Breadfruit contains a compound called artocarpin that, in lab dish studies, can slow that same enzyme down. In theory, if clearance slows, belinostat could build up a bit higher than expected, which might mean more of its usual side effects like nausea, fatigue, low blood counts, or liver enzyme changes.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is only test-tube evidence, and it has never actually been seen in people. Eating breadfruit as a food is very different from taking concentrated leaf extracts or teas. Since belinostat is a serious chemo medication, please loop in your oncology team or pharmacist before using any breadfruit supplement, just to be safe.

About Belinostat Injection

What Is Belinostat Injection Used For?

Brand name: Beleodaq

Beleodaq (belinostat) injection is approved to treat adult patients with relapsed or refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) — a fast-growing type of lymphoma (blood cancer) that either came back after treatment or never fully responded to it.

This approval is based on how well the cancer responded to the drug, including how long those responses lasted. Whether Beleodaq extends overall survival or improves disease-related symptoms has not yet been established. Continued approval may depend on results from a confirmatory trial.
