Cajeput Oil and Insulin Aspart

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS

Why this applies to Insulin Aspart

Insulin Aspart falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Cajeput Oil interacts with.

Animal studies suggest that cajeput oil might have hypoglycemic effects. Theoretically, taking cajeput oil with antidiabetes drugs could increase the risk for additive hypoglycemia. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, and others.

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the short version: insulin aspart (Fiasp) already does one main job, which is lowering your blood sugar. Some animal research hints that cajeput oil might nudge blood sugar down too. If both are working in the same direction, the worry is that they could add up and push your sugar a little too low.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical and based only on lab and animal studies, not real-world human data, so it's not something to panic over. Still, watch for signs of low blood sugar like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a racing heart, or confusion. If you'd like to try cajeput oil, check your glucose a bit more often at first and run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

“Every one of the 239 supplements listed for insulin aspart (Fiasp) touches the same thing the drug exists to manage, blood sugar, so this list warrants genuine care rather than a quick skim. About Insulin Aspart (rDNA Origin) Injection

What Is Insulin Aspart (rDNA Origin) Injection Used For?

Brand name: Fiasp

Insulin aspart is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in people with diabetes mellitus. It is approved for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in adults, and for diabetes mellitus in pediatric patients.

Insulin Aspart Protamine and Insulin Aspart Mix 70/30 is a pre-mixed product that combines a rapid-acting and an intermediate-acting insulin aspart. It is approved to improve blood sugar control in adult patients with diabetes mellitus. It is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis, and because its ratio of rapid-acting to intermediate-acting insulin is fixed, it does not allow for separate mealtime versus background dose adjustments.
