Maprotiline falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Cajeput Oil interacts with.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that cajeput leaf extract can inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) by approximately 30%. Theoretically, cajeput oil may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6. Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's the gist for Maprotiline: your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help break this medicine down and clear it from your body. Lab studies (in test tubes, not people) suggest cajeput oil may slow that enzyme by roughly 30%. If that played out in real life, your maprotiline could clear a little slower and build up, which might mean more of its usual effects like drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness, or a faster heartbeat.

The good news is this is only a theoretical concern based on early lab data, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, since maprotiline already has some heart and seizure-related cautions, it's smart to check with your pharmacist or doctor before using cajeput oil regularly.
