Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. Animal research suggests that berberine can have hypotensive effects. Also, a clinical study suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with amlodipine alone. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also reduce blood pressure.

Here's the gist: chlorthalidone is a water pill that lowers your blood pressure by helping your body shed extra salt and fluid. Corydalis yanhusuo may have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of its own, so taking the two together could push your pressure down more than expected. This isn't about one blocking or speeding up the other in your liver. It's simply that their effects may add up.

I'll be honest about the evidence here (it's theoretical, drawn mostly from animal studies and related compounds like berberine), so this isn't a guarantee. Still, if you notice dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, or feeling unusually tired, that's worth a call. Please don't start or stop anything on your own (check with your pharmacist or doctor first).

What Is Chlorthalidone Used For?

Brand names: Hygroton, Thalitone

Chlorthalidone is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, especially strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines.

Chlorthalidone is also used as an add-on treatment for edema (fluid buildup) caused by heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and kidney conditions including nephrotic syndrome, acute glomerulonephritis, and chronic renal failure. Thalitone is additionally indicated for edema associated with heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and renal disease including nephrotic syndrome.
