Panobinostat falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Devil's Claw interacts with.

Theoretically, devil's claw might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that devil's claw might inhibit CYP3A4, although this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea with these two. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down and clear panobinostat (Farydak). Lab studies hint that devil's claw might slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in real life, panobinostat could clear more slowly and build up, which may mean stronger side effects like more nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, low blood counts, or heart rhythm changes.

The important part: this is only test-tube evidence and has not been seen in actual people, so it may not amount to much. Still, panobinostat is a serious cancer medicine with a narrow margin for error, so please don't add devil's claw without first checking with your oncology team or pharmacist.

What Is Panobinostat Used For?

Brand name: Farydak

  • Panobinostat is used in combination with bortezomib (Velcade) and dexamethasone to treat people with multiple myeloma (a type of cancer of the bone marrow) who have already been treated two other medications, including bortezomib (Velcade). Panobinostat is in a class of medications called histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors. It works by killing cancer cells.
