The piece of this combo product I want to focus on is the codeine. Codeine is an opioid that calms the brain and slows breathing, and GHB does the very same thing through its own strong sedating action. Stack the two together and those effects pile up. That can mean heavy drowsiness, confusion, very slow or shallow breathing, and in a worst case, unresponsiveness or stopped breathing.

This is rated a major concern, and even though the proof is mostly anecdotal, the danger is real because both depress the nervous system. The antacids and aspirin in this product don't drive the interaction. Honestly, non-prescription GHB isn't safe to use at all. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything like this.

GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) is a powerful central nervous system depressant that is NOT a safe dietary supplement. In the U.S. it is a controlled substance, and only a tightly regulated prescription form (sodium oxybate) is legal for narcolepsy. Non-prescription GHB can cause coma, breathing failure, and death, and it is also a known 'date-rape' drug — it should not be taken outside of medical supervision.
