Amlodipine Besilate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Goji interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of goji root bark, but not goji fruit, with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects.
Animal and in vitro research suggest that goji root bark has hypotensive effects. However, goji fruit juice does not appear to reduce systolic or diastolic blood pressure in humans.

Here's the key detail with goji and your amlodipine (Istin): the concern is only about goji root bark, not the goji fruit or fruit juice that most people eat or drink. In lab and animal studies, the root bark seemed to lower blood pressure on its own. So in theory, pairing it with a blood pressure medicine like amlodipine could add up and push your numbers too low.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, unusually tired, or notice your heart racing, especially when standing up quickly. That said, this is theoretical and based on weak evidence. The everyday goji berries and juice you find in stores have not been shown to lower blood pressure in people. If you're considering a concentrated root bark supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES

Amlodipine Besilate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, goji berry might inhibit CYP3A4 and reduce metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that goji berry juice inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Concomitant use with goji may decrease metabolism and increase levels of CYP3A4 substrates. However, this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the simple version. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear amlodipine (Istin) out of your system. Lab studies suggest goji berry may slow that same enzyme down a bit. If that happened in a real person, amlodipine could hang around a little longer and build up, which might nudge its effects up. With amlodipine, that could mean more dizziness, flushing, headache, swollen ankles, or blood pressure dipping lower than expected.

The important thing: this is only test-tube research, and it has not been seen in actual patients. Normal amounts of goji as a food are very unlikely to matter. Concentrated goji supplements or large amounts of goji juice are the bigger question mark. Before adding those, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.
