Why this applies to Dexlansoprazole

Dexlansoprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Goji interacts with.

Theoretically, goji berry might inhibit CYP2C19 and reduce metabolism of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research shows that goji berry tincture and juice inhibit CYP2C19 enzymes. Concomitant use with goji may decrease metabolism and increase levels of CYP2C19 substrates. However, this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Dexilant (dexlansoprazole): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2C19 to break it down. Lab studies suggest goji berry might slow that enzyme a bit. If that happened in your body, dexlansoprazole could hang around longer and build up, which could mean a stronger acid-blocking effect and a higher chance of minor side effects like headache, diarrhea, or stomach upset.

The good news is this is theoretical, seen only in test-tube research and never actually reported in people. Eating goji berries as a food is very unlikely to cause a problem. Concentrated goji extracts or juices are where I'd be a little more cautious. If you use those regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

Here's the gist with goji and Dexilant (dexlansoprazole). Dexlansoprazole is an active medicine, not a prodrug, and your liver partly clears it using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies hint that goji berry might slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let a little more dexlansoprazole linger in your body, which might mean slightly stronger effects or a touch more chance of side effects like headache, diarrhea, or stomach upset.

The honest part: this has only been seen in test-tube research, never in real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Eating goji berries as food is very unlikely to matter. If you're using concentrated goji supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Dexlansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Dexilant Solutab

Dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules — sold as Dexilant and available as a generic — are used in patients 12 years of age and older to heal erosive esophagitis (EE), which is damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid. They are also used to keep that damage healed and relieve heartburn over time.

In addition, dexlansoprazole treats heartburn from non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) — that is, acid reflux that causes symptoms without visible damage to the esophagus. Both Dexilant and generic dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules share these same approved uses.
