Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

This combination product contains three medicines, and the one that matters here is the aspirin. Aspirin already thins your blood by keeping platelets from sticking together, which is exactly why it helps prevent clots but can also raise bleeding risk. The concern is that indole-3-carbinol may have its own mild platelet-slowing effect, so stacking the two could, in theory, add up to easier bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach bleeding.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is: it comes only from lab (test-tube) studies, not real patients, so it is theoretical. Broccoli on your plate is no worry. Concentrated I3C supplements are the question mark. Before adding one, please check with your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you notice any unusual bleeding.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aspirin, Codeine Phosphate, Phenobarbital page

“Alcohol is the entry I would flag first with Phenaphen (aspirin, codeine phosphate, phenobarbital): beer or wine layered onto codeine and phenobarbital can deepen sedation and, at worst, slow breathing. This medication deserves real caution with supplements.”
