Glecaprevir, Pibrentasvir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Jequirity interacts with.

In vitro research shows that jequirity extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking jequirity may inhibit the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

First things first: jequirity is not something you should be taking at all. The seeds contain abrin, a poison closely related to ricin, and there's no safe or proven supplement form. So my strongest advice here has nothing to do with Mavyret specifically, it's simply to stay away from jequirity.

On the interaction itself, this is very weak. In a lab dish, jequirity extract appeared to slow down the CYP3A4 enzyme, which is one pathway your body uses to clear glecaprevir and pibrentasvir. In theory, blocking that enzyme could let these drugs build up a bit, possibly adding to side effects like headache, tiredness, or nausea. But this is only test-tube data, not seen in real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor with any questions.

Despite a long history in traditional medicine, the seeds are dangerously poisonous and there is no reliable evidence that it is safe or effective. It should not be used as a supplement or medicine.

What Is Glecaprevir and Pibrentasvir Used For?

Brand name: Mavyret

Mavyret treats acute or chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection caused by genotypes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 in adults and children 3 years and older who have no cirrhosis or have compensated cirrhosis (mild liver scarring that is still functioning).

Mavyret is also approved for adults and children 3 years and older with genotype 1 HCV who were previously treated with either an NS5A inhibitor or an NS3/4A protease inhibitor (two earlier classes of hepatitis C drugs) — but not both at the same time.
