Melatonin + Doripenem
Doripenem brand name: Doribax.
Melatonin has a moderate interaction with Doripenem. Theoretically, taking melatonin with drugs that lower the seizure threshold might increase the risk of seizure activity.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS
Why this applies to Doripenem
Doripenem falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Melatonin interacts with.
Some clinical evidence suggests that melatonin may increase the frequency of seizures in certain patients, particularly children with neurological disabilities.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the connection worth knowing about. Doripenem is an antibiotic you get as an injection for serious infections, and like other carbapenems, it can slightly lower the seizure threshold in some people. That just means it can make the brain a little more prone to seizure activity, especially in folks who already have seizure risk factors or kidney problems.
Melatonin enters the picture because there's some evidence it may increase how often seizures happen in certain people, mostly children with neurological conditions. So in theory, combining the two could add up. I want to be clear though: this is a theoretical concern based on how these two work, not something proven for this exact pairing. For most healthy adults taking melatonin briefly for sleep, the risk is likely low. Still, since doripenem is used during serious infections, it's smart to mention any melatonin use to your doctor or pharmacist so they can keep an eye on you.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Doripenem page
“Two entries here matter more than all the others, and I would read them first. Doripenem (Doribax) is an intravenous antibiotic reserved for serious bacterial infections, which means anything that weakens treatment or piles on risk deserves genuine caution.”

About Melatonin
What is Melatonin?
- Trouble falling asleep (insomnia)
- Jet lag
- Delayed sleep phase syndrome
- Non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder
- Shift-work sleep problems
- Sleep problems in some children with conditions like autism or ADHD
Melatonin is a hormone your body makes naturally to help control your sleep-wake cycle, and the supplement form is widely used to help with sleep timing problems and jet lag. The evidence is strongest for certain circadian (body-clock) disorders and is more mixed for everyday insomnia. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially for children or during pregnancy.
About Doripenem Injection
What Is Doripenem Injection Used For?
Brand name: Doribax
-
Doripenem injection is used to treat serious infections of the urinary tract, kidney, and abdomen that are caused by bacteria. Doripenem injection is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat pneumonia that developed in people who were on a ventilator in a hospital. Doripenem injection is in a class of medications called carbapenem antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria.
-
Antibiotics such as doripenem injection will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. Taking antibiotics when they are not needed increases your risk of getting an infection later that resists antibiotic treatment.
