Here's the idea behind this pairing. Etanercept (Enbrel) works by calming down part of your overactive immune system, which is what eases the joint pain, swelling, and skin flare-ups of conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or psoriatic arthritis. Melatonin, on the other hand, can gently nudge the immune system in the opposite direction and rev it up a bit. In theory, that could work against what your Enbrel is trying to do, possibly making your symptoms a little harder to control.

I want to be honest with you, though: this concern is mostly theoretical and based on weaker studies, not strong real-world proof. It isn't something I'd panic over. Still, since both touch the immune system, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before adding melatonin, especially for ongoing use.

What Is Etanercept Injection Used For?

Brand name: Enbrel

Enbrel (etanercept) injection is approved to treat several inflammatory conditions. In adults, it is used for moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and chronic moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis.

In children, Enbrel is approved for polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis and juvenile psoriatic arthritis in patients 2 years and older, and for chronic moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in patients 4 years and older.
