Flurbiprofen falls under Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates — the group Puravive interacts with.

Puravive contains quercetin, which has been shown in studies to mildly inhibit the CYP2C9 metabolizing enzyme. This inhibition could potentially increase the risk of side effects from drugs. A small clinical trial with healthy volunteers found that taking 500 mg of quercetin twice daily for 10 days before using diclofenac, a drug metabolized by CYP2C9, increased diclofenac plasma levels by 75% and extended its half-life by 32.5% (source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29168292/). Combining quercetin with drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 could increase the risk of side effects, so caution is advised.

Here's the gist: Flurbiprofen is an NSAID that your liver clears using an enzyme called CYP2C9. Puravive contains quercetin, which can mildly slow that same enzyme down. When the enzyme works slower, flurbiprofen can hang around longer and build up a bit, which may nudge up its typical side effects, things like stomach upset or pain, heartburn, a higher chance of stomach bleeding, fluid retention, or strain on the kidneys.

The evidence here is modest. It comes from a small study using a related NSAID (diclofenac), not flurbiprofen itself, so the effect is plausible but not certain. Food-level amounts of quercetin are unlikely to matter much, but concentrated supplement doses could. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

Flurbiprofen tablets (sold as Flurbiprofen and Lurbiro) are used to relieve the pain, swelling, and stiffness of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Flurbiprofen Sodium eye drops are a separate product used during eye surgery — specifically to keep the pupil from constricting (getting smaller) while the procedure is underway. This use applies only to the ophthalmic (eye drop) form.
