Why this applies to Meloxicam

Meloxicam falls under Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates — the group Puravive interacts with.

Puravive contains quercetin, which has been shown in studies to mildly inhibit the CYP2C9 metabolizing enzyme. This inhibition could potentially increase the risk of side effects from drugs. A small clinical trial with healthy volunteers found that taking 500 mg of quercetin twice daily for 10 days before using diclofenac, a drug metabolized by CYP2C9, increased diclofenac plasma levels by 75% and extended its half-life by 32.5% (source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29168292/). Combining quercetin with drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 could increase the risk of side effects, so caution is advised.

Here's the gist: your body clears meloxicam mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Puravive contains quercetin, which can gently slow that same enzyme down. When that pathway is partly blocked, meloxicam can hang around longer and build up a bit higher than usual, which can nudge up its typical side effects.

For meloxicam, that means a greater chance of stomach upset or irritation, heartburn, fluid retention, higher blood pressure, and, with regular use, kidney strain or a higher bleeding risk in the gut. The evidence here is modest (based mostly on a small study using a different NSAID), so this isn't a guaranteed problem, but it's worth a heads-up. Please don't change anything on your own. Run this combination past your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Meloxicam

What Is Meloxicam Used For?

Brand names: Mobic, Vivlodex, Qmiiz ODT, Anjeso

Meloxicam tablets and oral suspension treat the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). The oral suspension and Zybic™ oral suspension are approved for JRA in children 2 years and older; meloxicam tablets are approved for JRA in patients who weigh at least 60 kg. Meloxicam capsules are approved specifically for the management of osteoarthritis pain.

Two IV (intravenous) formulations — QAMZOVA and XIFYRM — are indicated for adults for the management of moderate-to-severe pain, used alone or with non-NSAID pain relievers. Because these IV forms take time to reach full effect, they are not recommended when rapid pain relief is needed.
