Why this applies to Amphetamine

Amphetamine falls under Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates — the group Puravive interacts with.

Puravive contains Panax ginseng. Some research suggests that Panax ginseng might slow down the activity of an enzyme called CYP2D6 by about 6%. This enzyme plays a role in breaking down drugs in our system. One study (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32557706/) found that Panax ginseng slows down the breakdown of dextromethorphan, a drug that is processed by CYP2D6, but only to a small extent. It is important to note that not all studies agree on these effects, and some suggest that Panax ginseng might not have a significant impact on CYP2D6 at all. Nevertheless, it's important to be cautious if you're taking medications that are processed by CYP2D6 and consider discussing it with your healthcare provider.

Here's the deal with combining Puravive and your amphetamine. Puravive contains Panax ginseng, which may slightly slow down an enzyme called CYP2D6. That enzyme is one of the pathways your body uses to clear amphetamine. If it's nudged a bit slower, in theory amphetamine could hang around a little longer, which might mean a touch more of its usual effects like a faster heartbeat, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, reduced appetite, or feeling wound up.

Honestly though, the evidence here is thin. The slowdown measured was only about 6%, studies don't even agree it happens, and the rating on file is minor. For most people this is unlikely to cause a noticeable problem. Still, since amphetamine already affects your heart and energy, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Puravive.

Here's the gist with Puravive and your amphetamine (Dyanavel, Mydayis, Adzenys, and similar). One ingredient in Puravive is Panax ginseng, which a few older studies suggest may have a mild stimulant-like quality of its own. Stacked on top of a true stimulant like amphetamine, that could, in theory, nudge the stimulant effects a little higher. Think jitteriness, a faster or pounding heartbeat, trouble sleeping, or feeling more wired than usual.

The good news is this interaction is rated minor and unlikely, and the evidence behind it is weak. For most folks it won't cause a real problem. Still, if you notice your heart racing, anxiety, or poor sleep after adding Puravive, loop in your pharmacist or doctor before going further. Never adjust your amphetamine dose on your own.

Brand names: Dyanavel XR, Adensys XR-ODT, Mydayis, Adzenys ER

Amphetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years and older. Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR, and the amphetamine extended-release orally disintegrating tablet formulations are specifically approved for ADHD in this age group.

Amphetamine Sulfate tablets and Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate tablets) are also approved for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) and as a short-term aid in a calorie-restricted weight-loss program for exogenous obesity (weight gain from external factors like overeating) in patients who have not responded to other approaches.
