Here's the concern with pairing Puravive and metronidazole (Flagyl). Puravive contains Panax ginseng, and metronidazole is one of the antibiotics that can slightly stretch out the heart's electrical rhythm, something called QT prolongation. In theory, taking them together could add up and raise the small risk of an irregular heartbeat. This isn't about metronidazole becoming stronger or weaker as an antibiotic. It still works fine against your infection; the worry is only about heart rhythm.

Honestly, the evidence here is weak and conflicting. Some studies showed a short-term QT bump with ginseng, others showed nothing over time. For most healthy people this likely won't matter, but if you have heart rhythm issues or take other QT drugs, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Metronidazole treats three main types of infections. It's used for trichomoniasis (a sexually transmitted parasitic infection), amebiasis (an intestinal or liver infection caused by a parasite), and serious anaerobic bacterial infections — infections caused by bacteria that thrive without oxygen, which can affect the abdomen, skin, bones, lungs, and other areas.

Because sexual partners can pass trichomoniasis back and forth, both partners are typically treated at the same time, even if one has no symptoms.
