Here's the concern with pairing Sida cordifolia and sertraline (Zoloft). Sertraline can, in some people, stretch out the heart's electrical reset (what doctors call the QT interval). Sida cordifolia naturally contains ephedrine, a stimulant that can do the same thing. Stack the two together and the effect may add up, which in rare cases can lead to a dangerous irregular heartbeat.

Sertraline isn't a prodrug, so this isn't about how the supplement changes its levels. It's simply two things tugging on your heart rhythm at once. The evidence here is mostly theoretical and based on related ephedra studies, so I don't want to scare you. Still, given Sida's real heart and blood pressure risks, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

There is little reliable human evidence that it works, so most people should avoid it and talk with a pharmacist or doctor first.

About Sertraline

What Is Sertraline Used For?

Brand name: Zoloft

Sertraline treats a range of mental health conditions. All formulations are approved for major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The oral solution (including Zoloft oral solution) and several tablet formulations are also approved for panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

For OCD specifically, the capsule formulations and some tablet products are approved for use in adults and children aged 6 and older. Sertraline hydrochloride tablets (plain, not film-coated) are approved for OCD in pediatric patients as well. However, sertraline is not approved for major depressive disorder in children — only in adults.
