Rabeprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Vinpocetine interacts with.

Theoretically, vinpocetine might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro research shows that vinpocetine weakly inhibits CYP2C9. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version: lab studies suggest vinpocetine might weakly block an enzyme called CYP2C9, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear rabeprazole. If that enzyme is slowed, a little more rabeprazole could hang around than usual. In theory, that might mean slightly stronger effects or a bump in common side effects like headache, mild belly upset, or diarrhea.

The important part: this is based only on test-tube research, and it has not been seen in real people. Rabeprazole is also not a prodrug, so I wouldn't expect it to lose its acid-blocking benefit. For most folks this is a low-level concern, but since the evidence is thin, just mention vinpocetine to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Rabeprazole

What Is Rabeprazole Used For?

Brand name: Pariet

Rabeprazole delayed-release tablets treat a range of acid-related conditions in adults, including healing and maintenance of erosive or ulcerative GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), symptomatic GERD, duodenal ulcers, and pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. They are also used alongside antibiotics (amoxicillin and clarithromycin) to eradicate H. pylori bacteria and reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer coming back.

In adolescents 12 years and older, rabeprazole delayed-release tablets are approved for short-term treatment of symptomatic GERD. Both AcipHex and Rabeprazole Sodium delayed-release tablets share this indication set for adults and adolescents 12 and older.
