Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Carotec Nattokinase contains one active ingredient: NSK-SD, a form of nattokinase — an enzyme derived from fermented soybeans. The capsule also contains cellulose and ascorbyl palmitate as inactive ingredients.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Nattokinase product and its label doesn't state a use — see Nattokinase's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold does not establish that nattokinase works for angina, atherosclerosis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, or chronic fatigue syndrome — the data shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for any of these conditions. If you're considering it for a specific health goal, talk with your doctor about what the current evidence shows and whether it's right for you.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Nattokinase is generally well tolerated in the short term, but because of its blood-thinning effect, it should be used with caution in anyone at risk of bleeding. Rare reports of bleeding have occurred, including a case of brain bleeding when nattokinase was combined with aspirin.

It can also trigger allergic reactions — including anaphylaxis — in people sensitive to fermented soy or components of natto. There isn't enough safety data to use nattokinase during pregnancy, so it's best avoided.

Safety while breastfeeding is unknown; to be cautious, it should be avoided during lactation as well.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Nattokinase.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 289 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking Carotec Nattokinase, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel) — the risk of bleeding is Moderate. Also double-check if you take blood pressure medications, as nattokinase may lower blood pressure further.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Nattokinase may appeal to people interested in cardiovascular support, but the evidence for its effectiveness isn't established in our data. If you take blood thinners, blood pressure medications, or have any bleeding risk, you need to clear this with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — the interaction potential is real.

Anyone with a soy allergy or sensitivity to natto should avoid it entirely. Talk it over with your own healthcare provider to see if it fits your situation.

Nattokinase by Carotec: Common Questions

Does Nattokinase by Carotec interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Nattokinase has a known interaction with 289 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Nattokinase contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this if I'm on aspirin?
Not without checking first. Nattokinase has blood-thinning effects similar to aspirin, and there's a documented case of brain bleeding when someone took them together. Your doctor or pharmacist needs to assess your individual situation before you combine them.
Can I take nattokinase during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
No — there isn't enough safety data. It's best avoided in pregnancy, and safety while breastfeeding is unknown, so it should be avoided then too. Talk with your doctor if you're thinking about it during these times.
What is nattokinase, and where does it come from?
It's an enzyme from fermented soybeans (natto). The ingredient in this product is called NSK-SD. If you're sensitive to soy or natto, you should avoid it.
Does nattokinase actually work for heart health?
The evidence we have doesn't establish that it works for conditions like cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, or angina — we rate those as insufficient evidence. Your doctor can help you weigh what's known and what isn't.
Are there any side effects I should know about?
Most people tolerate it short-term without trouble, but rare bleeding has been reported. Allergic reactions — including serious ones like anaphylaxis — can happen in people sensitive to fermented soy or natto. If you have a soy allergy, skip it.
