Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

NattoKinase by XYMOGEN contains one active ingredient: nattokinase, an enzyme sourced from fermented soy. It also contains three inactive ingredients — a vegetarian capsule, rice flour, and magnesium stearate — which are standard fillers and binders.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Nattokinase's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Heart and circulatory health support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Angina, Atherosclerosis, Cardiovascular disease (CVD), Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) — and 4 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Nattokinase is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Angina (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Nattokinase is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Atherosclerosis, Cardiovascular disease (CVD), Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, and more.

The evidence for nattokinase's effectiveness isn't established in the data we hold. The ingredient has been studied for angina, atherosclerosis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and chronic fatigue, but each shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it.

If you're considering this product for a specific health goal, talk with your pharmacist about what the current research actually supports.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Nattokinase is generally well tolerated in the short term, but its blood-thinning effect means you need to be careful if you have any bleeding risk. Rare cases of serious bleeding, including brain hemorrhage, have been reported — especially when combined with aspirin or other blood thinners.

Some people may also have a hypersensitivity reaction to nattokinase or to natto (fermented soy); symptoms like throat or larynx swelling can appear within 2 hours of taking it. There isn't enough safety data to know whether nattokinase is safe in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, so avoid it during those times and talk with your doctor or pharmacist.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Nattokinase.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 289 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check your blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs first — aspirin, warfarin, clopidogrel, and others. Also review any blood pressure medications you take.

Both interactions are rated Moderate severity. Use the medication checker on this page with your full list before you begin.

General Statements

High Potency Patented, Fibrinolytic Enzyme

NattoKinase is an all-natural, potent fibrinolytic enzyme that is extracted and highly purified from natto, a fermented soybean food consumed in Japan for over 1000 years. It is fast-acting and long-lasting.

This package is completely recyclable (recycle)

In 1980, researchers discovered that NattoKinase could successfully break down fibrin, a blood clotting protein. NattoKinase has been the subject of many studies, including human and animal trials. NattoKinase may support the body in areas such as cardiovascular-related disorders, vascular and circulatory disorders and may aid in conditions of poor healing.*

NattoKinase by XYMOGEN: Common Questions

Does NattoKinase by XYMOGEN interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, NattoKinase has a known interaction with 289 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
NattoKinase contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is nattokinase and where does it come from?
Nattokinase is an enzyme that comes from natto, a traditional Japanese fermented soy food. It works by helping to thin the blood and break down clots.
Can I take NattoKinase if I'm already on aspirin or another blood thinner?
No — not without talking to your pharmacist or doctor first. Nattokinase thins blood on its own, and adding it to a blood thinner significantly raises your risk of bleeding. There's even a documented case of brain bleeding when someone combined nattokinase with low-dose aspirin.
Is it safe to take during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
No. There isn't enough safety data to know whether nattokinase is safe in pregnancy, and safety while breastfeeding is unknown, so both should be avoided. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant or nursing.
Can nattokinase cause allergic reactions?
Yes — if you're sensitive to natto or soy, you could have a hypersensitivity reaction. Symptoms like throat or larynx swelling can appear within 2 hours of taking it, and in rare cases anaphylaxis can occur.
Does it work for heart disease or blood vessel problems?
The evidence isn't established. Nattokinase has been studied for conditions like angina, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular disease, but we don't have reliable data showing it works for these yet.
