Vilazodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Adrafinil interacts with.

Theoretically, adrafinil might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C19 substrates.
Adrafinil is a precursor to the stimulant prescription drug modafinil. Modafinil has been shown to inhibit CYP2C19 activity in vitro.

Here's the gist with these two together. Once your liver turns adrafinil into modafinil, that modafinil may slow down an enzyme called CYP2C19, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear vilazodone (Viibryd). If vilazodone gets cleared more slowly, more of it can build up in your system, which could mean stronger effects and more side effects like nausea, diarrhea, trouble sleeping, headache, or feeling jittery or anxious.

I'll be honest though, this one is theoretical. It's based on lab test-tube data, not real patient reports, so it may never cause a noticeable problem. Still, since adrafinil is unregulated and rough on the liver, please run this combo by your doctor or pharmacist before mixing them.

Here's the quick version. Your body turns adrafinil into modafinil, and modafinil can gently speed up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Since vilazodone (Viibryd) is partly broken down by that same enzyme, the worry is that combining them could lower your vilazodone levels a bit. If that happens, your antidepressant might not work as well, and you could notice your depression symptoms creeping back, more anxiety, or trouble sleeping.

I'll be honest with you though: this is a theoretical concern based on how the drugs behave on paper, not strong real-world data, and modafinil is only a weak booster of that enzyme. Still, adrafinil is unregulated and hard on the liver, so please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before mixing the two.

Vilazodone hydrochloride tablets — sold as the brand Viibryd and as generic vilazodone hydrochloride — are approved to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. MDD is more than just feeling sad; it's a clinical condition involving persistent low mood, loss of interest, and other symptoms that significantly affect daily life.

Vilazodone is not approved for use in children or teenagers. Its safety and effectiveness have not been established in pediatric patients.
