These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Ceylon Leadwort interacts with whole categories of medication. Cyclosporine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Ceylon Leadwort in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Cyclosporine
Cyclosporine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for cyclosporine: your liver and gut rely on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this medicine down. Lab studies suggest plumbagin, a compound in Ceylon Leadwort, can slow that enzyme. If that happened in your body, cyclosporine could clear more slowly and build up to higher levels. Since cyclosporine is a narrow-therapeutic-index drug, even small shifts matter, and higher levels can mean more kidney strain, high blood pressure, tremor, or headaches.
The honest part: this is based only on test-tube research, not real people, so it's theoretical. Still, given how carefully cyclosporine has to be dosed and monitored with blood levels, I'd loop in your transplant team or pharmacist before adding this supplement rather than risk it.

IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS
2 of 2Cyclosporine also falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind if you take Cyclosporine to protect a transplant or calm an overactive immune system. Lab and animal research suggests that plumbagin, the active compound in Ceylon Leadwort, may have immune-affecting activity of its own. The worry is that adding it on top of your cyclosporine could throw off how well your immune system is being controlled, and with a transplant even small shifts matter.
I want to be honest: this concern comes only from test-tube and animal studies, not real patient data, so it's theoretical. Still, because cyclosporine is a delicate, narrow-margin drug, I'd play it safe and not combine the two without checking first. Please run it by your transplant team or pharmacist before using Ceylon Leadwort.

About Ceylon Leadwort
What is Ceylon Leadwort?
- Digestive complaints and poor appetite
- Skin conditions and wounds (applied to the skin)
- Joint pain and swelling
- Traditional 'metabolism-boosting' tonics
- Antimicrobial folk remedy
Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy.
About Cyclosporine
What Is Cyclosporine Used For?
Brand names: Neoral, Gengraf, Sandimmune, Ciclosporine, Cequa, Verkazia, Vevye
Cyclosporine is prescribed to help prevent the body from rejecting a transplanted kidney, liver, or heart. It is often used alongside other immunosuppressive medicines as part of a full transplant care plan.
It is also used for adults with severe, active rheumatoid arthritis that hasn't responded well enough to methotrexate, and for adults with severe plaque psoriasis who haven't had success with other standard treatments.

Cyclosporine Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Cyclosporine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Ceylon Leadwort — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
