Why this applies to Dipyridamole

Dipyridamole falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

There is some concern that Ceylon leadwort might potentiate the effects of anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs and possibly increase the risk of bleeding. Ceylon leadwort root extract has been shown to decrease platelet adhesion and prolong bleeding in animals. However, this effect has not yet been demonstrated in humans. Until more is known, use cautiously in patients taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. Some of these drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the thing to keep in mind: dipyridamole already works to keep your platelets from clumping together, which is exactly how it helps prevent clots after a heart valve replacement. Ceylon Leadwort may push in the same direction. In animal studies, its root extract lowered platelet stickiness and made bleeding last longer. Stack that on top of dipyridamole and, in theory, you could bleed or bruise more easily than expected.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it has only been seen in lab and animal research, not in people, so it's a caution and not a proven danger. Still, since you're on a blood thinner for a real reason, watch for things like easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding this supplement.

Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. Dipyridamole tablets are used alongside warfarin (a blood thinner) to help prevent dangerous blood clots from forming after cardiac valve replacement surgery. It is not used alone for this purpose — it works as an add-on to anticoagulant therapy.

Dipyridamole Injection is used as an alternative to exercise during thallium myocardial perfusion imaging — a type of heart scan that checks blood flow through the coronary arteries. It is given to patients who are unable to exercise adequately for the test.
