Insulin (Human) falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.

Ceylon leadwort root extract has been shown to both increase and decrease blood glucose levels in animal research. This effect has not yet been demonstrated in humans. Theoretically, Ceylon leadwort might reduce or potentiate the effects of antidiabetes drugs. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Medication dose adjustments may be necessary. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (Diabeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the honest picture: in animal studies, Ceylon Leadwort root has pushed blood sugar in both directions, sometimes lower, sometimes higher. We don't have human data showing this happens, so right now it's a theoretical concern, not a proven one. Still, when you're using insulin, even small swings matter because insulin already works to drop your blood sugar.

The worry runs two ways. If the supplement adds to insulin's effect, you could dip too low (shakiness, sweating, confusion, a racing heart). If it works against insulin, your sugars could run high instead. So if you decide to try Ceylon Leadwort, check your blood sugar more often and loop in your pharmacist or doctor first. Never adjust your insulin dose on your own.

Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. Novolin (human insulin injection) is used to improve glycemic control — meaning blood sugar management — in adults and children with diabetes mellitus.

Novolin 70/30 is a fixed-ratio mixture of intermediate-acting and short-acting human insulin. Because the ratio is fixed, it cannot be adjusted separately for background (basal) or mealtime (prandial) needs.
