Captopril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorophyllin interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyllin with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic derivative of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. Orally, chlorophyll has also been associated with the development of pseudoporphyria in multiple case reports.

Here's the practical concern with pairing chlorophyllin and your blood pressure combo. The hydrochlorothiazide piece of this pill is a known photosensitizer, meaning it can make your skin more prone to sunburn, rashes, or unusual reactions in sunlight. Chlorophyllin has also been linked to light sensitivity in some reports, so taking both together could, in theory, add up and leave your skin extra touchy in the sun.

I'll be honest, this interaction is mostly theoretical and based on case reports, not strong studies, so don't panic. It won't change how well your medication controls your blood pressure. Just be smart about sun protection: sunscreen, a hat, and shade. If you notice easy burning or an odd rash, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
