Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. Animal research suggests that berberine can have hypotensive effects. Also, a clinical study suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with amlodipine alone. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also reduce blood pressure.

Here's the thing to know about pairing Corydalis yanhusuo with macitentan (Opsumit). Macitentan is used for pulmonary arterial hypertension, and it relaxes blood vessels, which can lower your blood pressure. Corydalis contains compounds (like berberine) that may also nudge blood pressure down. So the worry here is an additive effect, meaning the two together could drop your pressure a bit more than expected.

If that happens, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, tired, or even faint when standing up quickly. I'll be honest with you though: this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how these substances work rather than solid human studies. Still, since PAH is serious, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding corydalis, and don't change your macitentan on your own.

Here's the gist for Opsumit (macitentan). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break this medication down. Corydalis contains berberine, which lab and early human studies suggest can mildly slow that same enzyme. If it slows the breakdown, more macitentan could linger in your blood than usual, which may nudge up its typical effects like low blood pressure, headache, stuffy nose, swelling in the legs, or feeling tired or short of breath.

I want to keep this in perspective: this is a theoretical concern based on how the herb behaves in the lab, not proven harm in real patients. Still, since macitentan is an important PAH medication, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing it with corydalis rather than changing anything yourself.

What Is Macitentan Used For?

Brand name: Opsumit

Macitentan tablets — sold under the brand name Opsumit — are used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH, WHO Group I), a serious condition where the blood pressure in the arteries supplying the lungs is abnormally high. The goal is to slow down how quickly the disease gets worse and to lower the chances of being hospitalized because of it.

In clinical studies, it was shown to be effective in adults with mostly moderate-to-severe PAH symptoms. Patients in those studies had PAH caused by unknown or inherited reasons, connective tissue disorders, or congenital heart disease with repaired heart shunts.
