Here's the gist for Clomipramine (Anafranil): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2C19 to help break it down. In test-tube studies, devil's claw appears to slow that enzyme. If that happened in real life, less clomipramine would get cleared, so more could build up in your system.

More clomipramine can mean stronger side effects, things like drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, a faster heartbeat, or feeling foggy. The important part: this is only theoretical lab data, and it has never actually been shown in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since clomipramine needs careful dosing, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding devil's claw, especially as supplement strengths vary.

Here's the idea behind this pairing. Lab studies hint that Devil's Claw may slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear clomipramine. If that enzyme works slower, clomipramine could build up a bit more than usual. Since this drug is active on its own (not a prodrug), more of it in your system could mean stronger effects and more side effects, like dry mouth, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, a faster heartbeat, or feeling more sedated.

That said, this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube work, and it has not actually been seen in people. So I wouldn't panic. Still, before adding Devil's Claw, check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you feel.

To qualify for treatment, the obsessions or compulsions must cause significant distress, take up a lot of time, or noticeably interfere with work, school, or social life.
