Here's the simple version. Chlorthalidone is a water pill that nudges your kidneys to flush out extra salt (sodium) and water, which is exactly how it lowers blood pressure. One known side effect is that your sodium level can drift too low, something we call hyponatremia.

Now add DIM. In a small bit of research, high doses (around 600 mg a day) were linked to two cases of low sodium, though the people didn't feel symptoms. So the worry is that DIM plus chlorthalidone could push your sodium down a little further than either would alone. If sodium drops too low you might feel tired, dizzy, headachey, nauseated, or confused. This is mostly theoretical, but if you take both, ask your pharmacist or doctor about checking your sodium and don't change anything on your own.

What Is Chlorthalidone Used For?

Brand names: Hygroton, Thalitone

Chlorthalidone is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, especially strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines.

Chlorthalidone is also used as an add-on treatment for edema (fluid buildup) caused by heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and kidney conditions including nephrotic syndrome, acute glomerulonephritis, and chronic renal failure. Thalitone is additionally indicated for edema associated with heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and renal disease including nephrotic syndrome.
