Rabeprazole Sodium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Green Tea interacts with.

Green tea is unlikely to produce clinically significant changes in the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro and in vivo research suggests that green tea can inhibit intestinal CYP3A and induce hepatic CYP3A4 enzymes. However, this effect is unlikely to be clinically significant, as green tea does not appear to affect CYP3A4 activity in humans.

Good news here: if you enjoy green tea while taking rabeprazole (Aciphex) for heartburn or reflux, you really don't have much to worry about. Rabeprazole is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and lab studies hint that green tea can nudge this enzyme in both directions. But here's the key point: in actual human studies, green tea doesn't seem to meaningfully change how this enzyme works.

So in real life, your normal cup (or even a few) is very unlikely to make rabeprazole stronger or weaker. You shouldn't expect extra side effects like headache or stomach upset, or a sudden return of heartburn, just from drinking tea. Concentrated green tea extract pills are a different beast, so if you take those, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist.

About Rabeprazole

What Is Rabeprazole Used For?

Brand names: Aciphex, Aciphex Sprinkle

Rabeprazole delayed-release tablets treat a range of acid-related conditions in adults, including healing and maintenance of erosive or ulcerative GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), symptomatic GERD, duodenal ulcers, and pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. They are also used alongside antibiotics (amoxicillin and clarithromycin) to eradicate H. pylori bacteria and reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer coming back.

In adolescents 12 years and older, rabeprazole delayed-release tablets are approved for short-term treatment of symptomatic GERD. Both AcipHex and Rabeprazole Sodium delayed-release tablets share this indication set for adults and adolescents 12 and older.
