Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Hydrocodone Bitartrate
Hydrocodone Bitartrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Jequirity interacts with.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
First things first: jequirity seeds are genuinely poisonous (they contain abrin, a relative of ricin), so this isn't something I'd ever want you taking as a supplement at all. Setting that big safety issue aside, here's the specific interaction you asked about. Your body partly uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear hydrocodone. Lab studies suggest jequirity can slow that enzyme down, which in theory could let hydrocodone build up a bit more than usual.
If that happened, you might feel more sedation, dizziness, slowed breathing, constipation, or nausea. I'll be honest, though: this is only test-tube evidence, the interaction is rated minor and unlikely, and the real danger here is jequirity's toxicity, not its effect on your pain medicine. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything with hydrocodone.
