Here's the connection worth knowing. Meropenem, like other carbapenem antibiotics, can slightly lower the seizure threshold in some people, meaning it can make seizures a bit more likely, especially at higher doses or in folks with kidney problems or a history of seizures. Melatonin has been linked in a few reports to more frequent seizures in certain patients, mainly children with neurological conditions. So in theory, using them together could nudge that risk up a little.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's largely theoretical and based on how these work, not strong proof. For most people taking a short course of Vabomere for a urinary or kidney infection, it's unlikely to be a real problem. Still, if you have a seizure history, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Meropenem and Vaborbactam Injection Used For?

Brand name: Vabomere

  • Meropenem and vaborbactam injection is used to treat serious urinary tract infections, including kidney infections, that are caused by bacteria. Meropenem is in a class of medications called carbapenem antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria. Vaborbactam is in a class of medications called beta-lactamase inhibitors. It works by preventing bacteria from destroying meropenem.

  • Antibiotics such as meropenem and vaborbactam injection will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. Taking antibiotics when they are not needed increases your risk of getting an infection later that resists antibiotic treatment.
