Lorazepam falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS — the group Milk Thistle interacts with.

Theoretically, milk thistle might affect the clearance of drugs that undergo glucuronidation.
Laboratory research shows that milk thistle constituents inhibit uridine diphosphoglucuronosyl transferase (UGT), the major phase 2 enzyme that is responsible for glucuronidation. Theoretically, this could decrease the clearance and increase levels of glucuronidated drugs. Other laboratory research suggests that a milk thistle extract of silymarin might inhibit beta-glucuronidase, although the significance of this effect is unclear.

Here's the lowdown on pairing milk thistle with lorazepam. Your body clears lorazepam through a process called glucuronidation, and lab studies hint that milk thistle's silymarin could slow the enzyme (UGT) that does this work. In theory, that might let lorazepam linger a bit longer and build up, which could mean more drowsiness, dizziness, feeling foggy, or being unusually sleepy.

I want to be honest with you though: this concern comes from test tube and animal research, not real people taking both together. So it's more of a what if than a proven problem. If you take lorazepam daily, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before adding milk thistle, and watch for extra sleepiness early on.

About Lorazepam

What Is Lorazepam Used For?

Brand name: Ativan

Lorazepam tablets (Ativan and generic) and the oral solution are used to manage anxiety disorders or for short-term relief of anxiety symptoms, including anxiety that comes with depressive symptoms. Loreev XR, an extended-release capsule, is specifically indicated for adults with anxiety disorders who are already stable on lorazepam tablets taken three times daily.

Ativan and generic lorazepam injections are used in two additional situations: treating status epilepticus (a medical emergency involving prolonged or repeated seizures) and as a pre-surgery medication in adults to produce sedation, ease anxiety, and reduce memory of events on the day of surgery.
