CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Gestodene
Gestodene falls under CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS — the group Oolong Tea interacts with.
Oolong tea contains caffeine. Oral contraceptives decrease the rate of caffeine clearance by 40% to 65%.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about pairing your oolong tea with Gestodene (Minesse): this interaction works the other way around than you might expect. Gestodene isn't affected by the tea. Instead, the hormones in your birth control pill slow down how fast your body clears caffeine, by roughly 40% to 65%. So the caffeine from your oolong tea sticks around longer and can hit a bit harder.
In practice, that might mean you feel more jittery, have a faster heartbeat, trouble sleeping, or feel restless from the same cup you always drink. It's considered a minor interaction, so most people do just fine. If you notice caffeine bothering you more than usual, ease back on the tea or coffee and chat with your pharmacist.

“Gestodene, the progestin in the low-dose birth control pill Minesse, is a medication where a weakened dose has a real consequence: unintended pregnancy. So the 59 supplements and herbs on file deserve genuine vigilance, and the two rated major most of all.”

About Oolong Tea
What is Oolong Tea?
- Weight management
- Mental alertness and energy
- Heart health
- Blood sugar support
- Antioxidant support
Oolong tea is a traditional partially oxidized tea made from the same plant as green and black tea, and it provides caffeine and plant antioxidants. As a beverage it is generally considered safe for most healthy adults in moderate amounts, but evidence for specific health benefits like weight loss or blood sugar control is limited. If you have heart, blood pressure, or caffeine-sensitivity concerns, talk with your pharmacist or doctor.
