Here's the short version: if you enjoy a cup or two of oolong tea while taking Farxiga (dapagliflozin), you almost certainly don't need to worry. The concern on file is that the caffeine in oolong tea could nudge your blood sugar slightly, either up or down. But this is theoretical and rated as a minor, unlikely interaction. Farxiga doesn't depend on a liver enzyme that tea affects, so the tea isn't going to make the drug stronger or weaker.

What this really means is just to keep an eye on your numbers if you suddenly start drinking a lot of strong tea or take concentrated caffeine extracts. Normal tea drinking is fine for most people. If you notice unexpected swings in your readings, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Dapagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Farxiga

Dapagliflozin is used for several serious conditions. It helps improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise). It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is additionally approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization, and urgent visits due to heart failure in adults with heart failure — and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, including reducing the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular death, in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of getting worse.
