Here's the short version: oolong tea and glyburide can be a little unpredictable together, but the interaction is minor and not likely to cause trouble for most people. Glyburide works by nudging your pancreas to release more insulin, which lowers blood sugar. The caffeine in oolong tea has been reported to either raise or lower blood sugar, so in theory it could tug your numbers in either direction.

This is mostly theoretical and based on weak evidence, so a cup or two of tea probably won't undo your glyburide. The main thing to watch for is signs of low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, dizziness) or unusually high readings. If you drink tea regularly, keep an eye on your home glucose checks and mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Glyburide Used For?

Brand names: Diabeta, Micronase, Glynase, Glycron, Micronized, Glynase PresTab, Albert Glyburide

Glyburide tablets are used alongside diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication where the body produces dangerous levels of acids called ketones).

Glyburide may be used alone or combined with metformin when metformin alone is not enough. It can also be used to help transition patients who are moving from insulin or other diabetes pills to a new regimen, under a doctor's guidance.
