Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Pseudoephedrine
Pseudoephedrine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Oolong Tea interacts with.
Oolong tea contains caffeine. Due to the CNS stimulant effects of the caffeine constituent of oolong tea, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: both oolong tea and pseudoephedrine are stimulants in their own way. Pseudoephedrine wakes up your system to shrink swollen nasal blood vessels, and the caffeine in oolong tea adds its own jolt on top. Putting them together doesn't change how your body breaks the drug down, it just stacks two stimulants, so the side effects can pile up.
What that can feel like is a racing or pounding heart, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, a touch of anxiety, or a small bump in blood pressure. This is mostly expert opinion, not hard proof, and a cup or two of tea is gentler than a strong energy drink or caffeine pills. Still, if you notice these effects or have heart or blood pressure concerns, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Oolong Tea
What is Oolong Tea?
- Weight management
- Mental alertness and energy
- Heart health
- Blood sugar support
- Antioxidant support
Oolong tea is a traditional partially oxidized tea made from the same plant as green and black tea, and it provides caffeine and plant antioxidants. As a beverage it is generally considered safe for most healthy adults in moderate amounts, but evidence for specific health benefits like weight loss or blood sugar control is limited. If you have heart, blood pressure, or caffeine-sensitivity concerns, talk with your pharmacist or doctor.
About Pseudoephedrine
What Is Pseudoephedrine Used For?
Brand names: Pseudoval Plus, Sudafed, Mini Pseudo, Robidrine, Sudafed 12 Hour
Pseudoephedrine temporarily relieves nasal congestion and sinus pressure caused by the common cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies. Most products also relieve sinus congestion and pressure, and help restore easier breathing through the nose.
Children's Sudafed oral solution additionally promotes nasal and/or sinus drainage. The Nasal Decongestant tablet specifically notes that it temporarily restores freer breathing through the nose.
